Better than Knife and Fork

One of the delights of being a parent of a young child is getting to cut tiny morsels of food for those growing little tummies. In fact, one of the best things about a night out in my book, is not having to cut someone else's food. That said, I have been introduced to a fabulous tool to make this job easier - a small pair of scissors. Now, when one of our friends at church first mentioned this little trick, I was doubtful as to its worth. Then she gave me a pair of small scissors in a cute little plastic case, and now I am hooked. We take them everywhere, and when we don't, we berate ourselves for the extra trouble we've caused.

Since we've started this trend with our little man, my mom-in-law has mentioned she does the same with many cooking ingredients for dishes. I must say, cutting up a large breast of chicken, does indeed go quite a bit faster with scissors than knife and fork. In fact, I've now decided I need a pair of kitchen shears just for this purpose. My friend who orginiated the idea even keeps multiple pairs on hand, just so she's never without. I think she may be wise to do so.

So there you have it. Works for me. Give it a try, I think you'll be convinced.

Hi! We use scissors all the time to cut up things (kitchen scissors) but only at home. I've never thought about taking along a small pair with me (not on the airplane of course, heavens, no - ha)

People always look at me strangely when I use scissors to finish cutting a big pan of pizza (you know, where the crusts never quite cut through). As soon as they see it once (or try it themselves at my house) they are immediately hooked. :)

I also love to use a pizza cutter for pancakes and waffles. That way kids can cut up their own food and I don't have to worry about them using a knife.

Thanks for sharing a great tip!

We, too, use scissors in the house. ESPECIALLY for spaghetti. Have you tried to chase those things around a bowl with a knife? UGH. Scissors make quick work of it. I have never thought about carrying a set with me, though. Brilliant, I say. Brilliant!

Wow! You reminded me how my Mom always cut pizza with scissors. I had completely forgotten until now, and my hubby is a big fan of using pizza cutters for cutting pies. I think it's an Alton Brown thing.]

But I hadn't thought of cutting spaghetti with scissors. What a great idea! Thanks for sharing guys.
